10:45 am	Milford — Celtics director of player personnel Leo Papile went out for some Chinese food not too long ago, and he came back with a line on several new prospects. Papile went on a 12-day scouting mission to China, checking out the Chinese Basketball Association's All-Star Game in Changsa. "We were the only (NBA) team over there, but I think you're going to see a lot of teams follow," Papile said. "It's a country of 1.4 billion people, and only three of them are in the NBA right now. China is coming fast. There are some very good young players. They're going to be an international power very shortly." Papile survived some 29 hours of travel time on his way from Boston to San Francisco to Shanghai to Changsa. He also survived a night in the hospital because of exhaustion. "I think I tried to do too much in a short period of time and it caught up with me a little," he said. Papile made some good contacts. He renewed ties with Jamaica Plain native Tom McCarthy, who will now be the Celtic liaison in that part of the world. (He coached at Brookline High and Boston College, but he had to go to China to work for the Celtics. Go figure.) McCarthy worked overseas for Puma and others and ran the Asian Zone Qualifying tournament for FIBA, basketball's international governing body. More recently, he founded China's baseball league. "I think we've got some good roots there now," said Papile. "And that's going to be very important. Most of the interesting players there are underage, so you can't really talk about them yet.
